"Shohei Ohtani my money to me": Michael Irvin urges Travis Hunter to send a clear message to NFL teams ahead of Draft 2025

Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irving has some advice for Travis Hunter, who's set to enter the 2025 NFL draft. The Hall of Fame wide receiver advised Hunter to set an ultimatum ahead of potential team meetings in 2025.

Irvin said in a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) by "Speak" on FS1,

"Shohei Ohtani my money to me.”

The analyst implored Hunter to leverage his versatility to set a stunning precedent in the NFL, similar to what Shohei Ohtani did in the MLB. The reasoning is that there's no player like the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner at the professional level, and what he did in college football this season is going to be talked about for years to come.

Travis Hunter is a consensus Top 3 pick in the 2025 draft

Travis Hunter was the most impactful player on offense and defense for the Colorado Buffaloes. He led the team in receiving stats and most defensive back stats this season, which saw him take home more than a handful of awards.

Scouts are paying close attention to his exploits and see him off the draft board by the time the fourth pick rolls around. In a mock draft by Fox Sports, the New York Giants picked Hunter with the No. 1 pick, CBS Sports sees Hunter going to the Las Vegas Raiders with the second pick, while USA TODAY Sports, ESPN, and CBS Sports have Hunter on his way to the New England Patriots as the third pick.

The consensus is that once Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward is off the board, the next team will pick Hunter. Some observers believe that Hunter could be the first pick if it's a team without an urgent need for a quarterback.

Will Travis Hunter play both ways in the NFL?

Travis Hunter has repeatedly said that he wants to play offense and defense in the NFL. He has been doing so since high school and believes he'll be able to continue professionally.

However, scouts, general managers and players have doubts about such viability at the pro level. That's because it's rarely been in the modern game, and doing so could be strenuous on the highly touted prospect.

However, if there's anything we've learned about Hunter, he'll stick to his plan and attempt to prove all the doubters wrong. It'll be interesting to see how the team that selects him will use his unique talents in the 2025 regular season.
