The South Carolina Gamecocks travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to face the Sooners in a Week 8 clash of the SEC that opens up what will likely become a recurring series of yearly clashes between the schools. Both schools are unranked, with Oklahoma disappointing with their SEC debut season performance.
The Sooners have a record of 4-2, which includes losses to Tennessee and long-time Big 12 rival Texas. With that, their SEC record comes to a lousy 1-2 they will be looking to reverse. The Gamecocks are doing a bit worse, with an overall record of 3-3 and an SEC mark of 1-3.
Their treacherous conference schedule has handed them losses to LSU, Ole Miss and Alabama, all of those schools being ranked ones. South Carolina is currently on a two-game losing streak.
South Carolina vs. Oklahoma odds and prediction
The game is almost a toss-up according to the bookies, with ESPN Bet making the Gamecocks a 1-point favorite. Interestingly, the network's game predictor gives the Sooner a 65.8% chance of winning the encounter, while Fox favors South Carolina with 52.6%. The money line is set at -110 for both schools.
Oklahoma's Michael Hawkins Jr. comes in with 458 passing yards, one touchdown, and a QBR of 54.6. Let's remember, that Hawkins Jr. replaced former five-star recruit Jackson Arnold during the Tennessee game. Arnold had been Oklahoma's starter up until that point, with 538 passing yards, seven touchdown passes, three interceptions, and a QBR of 40 through three games and a half.
Expect the Sooners to be able to scrap out a win here.
Prediction: Oklahoma 23-20 South Carolina
