Syracuse vs Boston College: Preview
Syracuse is a two-point road underdog, while the over/under is set at 56.5 points.
The Orange rallied to beat Virginia Tech in OT after a brutal showing against Pitt which ended almost all hopes of playing in the ACC title game. The win also made Syracuse bowl-eligible.
“That was already going to happen,” coach Fran Brown said, via ESPN. “The bowl game wasn’t the mission. That’s something we were going to accomplish along the way. I knew we were good enough.”
Syracuse trailed 21-3 but came all the way back which delighted quarterback Kyle McCord.
“I think in years prior maybe when the score was 21-3 the guys would quit,” McCord said. “There’s no quit in this team, there's no sense of panic on the sideline. We just keep swinging until the end. To win this first one in November, I think will be good for momentum."
The Orange are led by McCord who's thrown for 2,761 yards, 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. LeQuint Allen has rushed for 602 yards and seven touchdowns.
Defensively, Syracuse is led by Fadil Diggs who has 4 sacks and Justin Barron has 49 tackles.
Boston College, meanwhile, is on a three-game losing streak, as the Eagles haven't been playing good football as of late. BC is coming off a bye week, but the loss to Louisville was frustrating as the Eagles led 20-7 at the half.
"Brutal. Nah, I can't do it. Can't play for 60 minutes," coach Bill O'Brien said, via SI. "Can't coach them well enough to get them to play for 60 minutes, got to coach a lot better. Got to watch the tape and figure out how to fix it. Terrible. ...
"What got us open in the first half was a couple gadget plays and we didn't really do anything in the first half. It was pretty even. They turned the ball over, we didn’t. So, we did some good things in the first half, but it really wasn't, we didn't do much on offense tonight."
The Eagles are led by Thomas Castellanos who's thrown for 1,352 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions. Defensively, Max Tucker and Khari Johnson have two interceptions each, and Donovan Ezeiruaku has 9 sacks.
Even though Boston College had its bye week, the Eagles shouldn't be favored here. Boston College is not playing good football at all, while Syracuse has an offense that can score plenty of points.
Kyle McCord should have success against this Boston College defense and should lead Syracuse to a road win.
Prediction: Syracuse 27, Boston College 23.
