The TCU Horned Frogs are set to begin their 2024 college football season tonight against the Stanford Cardinal. However, questions surround the program. One of the biggest is who will be under center for coach Sonny Dykes. Let's examine his options and discuss who will be the TCU Horned Frogs' starting quarterback tonight.
Who will start at QB for the TCU Horned Frogs?
Josh Hoover
Hoover will open the season as the program's starting quarterback. He is the incumbent from last year when he did a solid job. Looking at his 2023 statistics, Hoover was 185-of-298 (62.1%) for 2,206 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also rushed for two scores.
The veteran understands the offense coach Sonny Dykes wants to run and shows the capabilities to do what is asked of him.
Ken Seals
Of all the current backup TCU quarterbacks, junior Ken Seals makes the most compelling case to be the first man up if Josh Hoover struggles or suffers an injury. Seals spent the previous three seasons with the Vanderbilt Commodores before transferring to the Horned Frogs.
Throughout his college career, Seals has gone 418-of-690 (60.6%) for 4,292 yards with 28 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. However, his interception total has decreased each season, with just four in 2023. Last fall might not have been his best in terms of QBR, as he offered a 40.9 while completing just 58.7% of his throws.
Backed by solid QB options, this TCU team should contend for a bowl game this year after tallying five wins in 2023.
