Tennessee and Georgia face off in a key Week 12 game for both their seasons. The Volunteers are the No. 7 program while the Bulldogs are ranked No. 12 in the nation at the moment. The game might as well be an elimination one, with whoever loses being taken out of contention for the College Football Playoff.

The Volunteers have an 8-1 overall record and 5-1 in SEC play. Their only loss this season came in a trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the Razorbacks got their best win in two decades. Arkansas won the game 19-14 while shutting out Tennessee in the first, second and fourth quarters. Since then they've redeemed themselves with a victory over Alabama.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have a 7-2 overall record and 5-2 in SEC play. They have fallen in games to Alabama and just last week against Ole Miss. Both games have been some of the best of the year, but Week 11's loss was particularly worrisome due to how the Rebels' defense managed to shut out Carson Beck and the offense.

Tennessee vs. Georgia head-to-head

This is a storied series, going back to 1899. Georgia has a slight age in proceedings, having a record of 28-23-2. The current state of affairs is also on their side, with the Bulldogs having won the last seven encounters between the southern schools.

Tennessee's last victory came almost a decade ago, in 2016, when the Volunteers won an away game in Athens 34-31. That was also a record for the series, with the score being the closest margin of victory in any encounter between the schools. The biggest margin of victory was also a Tennessee one; a 46-0 game in the 1936 season.

Georgia has won 14 out of 20 games in the last two decades. Georgia's latest victory, in 2023, ended 38-10 at Knoxville, Tennessee.

The first game in the series was a victory for Tennessee as well. It was played on Nov. 11, 1899, but the game was far from a thrilling one, with the Volunteers winning 5-0.
