The Territorial Cup has been one of the most important trophies in the college football scenario. This award is presented to the winners of the Arizona- Arizona State rivalry. These teams include the Arizona Wildcats of the University of Arizona and the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Arizona State University. Both teams compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). They were previously members of the Pac-12 Conference before joining the Big-12 Conference in 2024. The teams first faced off on November 30, 1899, and have since then played 97 games. They are set to face off again on November 30, 2024.

The Territorial Cup was originally introduced in 1899 when it was presented to the Arizona Territorial Normal School. Since then, details about the cup were not available until it was found in a church in 1980. However, this cup started to be awarded to the rivalry between Arizona and Arizona State in 2001, when the Presidents of both Universities agreed upon it to be used as an award. Since then, the award has been presented to either the Arizona Wildcats or the Arizona State Sun Devils every year. Notably, both Universities started participating in the Territorial Cup Series in 2009. which includes a year-long competition comprising different sports. The team that wins the Territorial Cup in a football game gets to keep the trophy for a year.

The Arizona Wildcats and the Arizona State Sun Devils have developed a popular rivalry over the years as per Azcentral. They first encountered each other in 1899 when Arizona State defeated Arizona 11-2. However, Arizona bounced back and tasted their first victory by defeating Arizona State 12-0.
