The Texas A&M Aggies lost running back Rueben Owens for the entire 2024 college football season. Owens was projected to be the Aggies' third-string running back in 2024 but was still going to get plenty of carries.
Owens was a memner of the 2023 SEC All-Freshman Team as he rushed for 385 yards and three touchdowns while adding 12 catches for 109 yards.
"Rueben Owens suffered a lower leg injury in our scrimmage on Saturday. I will address his injury at my next media availability," head coach Mike Elko said in a statement.
After Owens suffered an injury, Texas A&M still has its top two running backs heading into the 2024 season.
Who will start for Mile Elko in the 2024 season at Texas A&M?
#1. Le'Veon Moss
Even without Rueben Owens' injury, Le'Veon Moss was going to be Texas A&M's starting running back.
Moss was the starting running back in 2023 as he rushed for 484 yards and five touchdowns on 96 carries. He added 84 receiving yards on 11 catches.
Moss was a four-star recruit in the class of 2022.
#2. Amari Daniels
Amari Daniels will form a one-two punch with Le'Veon Moss in the Aggies backfield next season.
Daniels rushed for 532 yards on 105 carries and six touchdowns. He added 102 receiving yards on 14 receptions last season.
Daniels is entering his fourth season at Texas A&M and was a four-star recruit in the class of 2021.
#3. EJ Smith
EJ Smith will be the Texas A&M Aggies third-string running back but he should be able to get some more playing time with Rueben Owens out for the season.
Smith is the son of Emmitt Smith and is entering his first year at Texas A&M after transferring from Stanford. Last season with the Cardinal, he rushed for 218 yards on 53 carries. He added 242 receiving yards on 33 receptions.
Smith was a three-star recruit in the transfer portal.
