The No.15 Texas A&M Aggies will take on the Auburn Tigers in a highly anticipated SEC showdown in Week 13. Mike Elko took over as the head coach of the team this offseason and has so far helped them qualify for bowl games.
The Aggies have recorded an 8-2 (5-1 SEC) campaign so far in 10 games and are second in the SEC rankings. They are on the verge of competing for the conference championship and possibly being a contender in the new 12-team playoffs.
So, who will be their starting quarterback in Week 13?
Texas A&M Aggies starting quarterback against the Auburn Tigers in Week 13
Marcel Reed will be the starting quarterback for Mike Elko's team during its Week 13 showdown against the Auburn Tigers. So far this season, he has started in five games and tallied 1,129 passing yards and nine touchdowns.
Last week during their victory against New Mexico State, Reed completed 20 of 31 passes for 268 yards and two TDs and had one rushing TD.
Coming out of Montgomery Bell Academy, Marcel Reed joined the Aggies as a part of the 2023 recruiting class. He redshirted his freshman campaign while appearing in three games, tallying 374 passing yards and one touchdown. This season, Reed initially served as the backup to QB1 Connor Weigman.
Both of them shared playing time on the field. But during their 38-23 victory over LSU, Reed replaced Weigman in the third quarter and has been the starting quarterback ever since. His dual-threat abilities will definitely be concerning for Auburn which is fighting for bowl eligibility.
Texas A&M's quarterback depth chart
Apart from Marcel Reed, the Aggies also have Connor Weigman and Jaylen Henderson in their QB depth chart. Weigman joined Texas A&M in 2022 out of high school. During his true freshman campaign, he tallied 896 passing yards and eight TDs.
He was named as the QB1 of the team last season. After starting four games, Weigman was sidelined for the rest of the season due to an injury. He returned as the starting quarterback of the Aggies this year before being replaced by Marcel Reed.
On the other hand, Jaylen Henderson began his collegiate journey with Fresno State in 2021. After two seasons, he joined Texas A&M last season and served as the third-string quarterback behind Connor Weigman and Max Johnson. He has yet to make an appearance for the team this season.
