Steve Sarkisian is one of the most vocal coaches in football. The Texas Longhorns coach is preparing for the College Football Playoff, but that hasn't stopped him from giving his two cents on what's happening around the collegiate game.
With the recent court ruling on Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia's eligibility, let's look at what Sarkisian had to say on Thursday.
According to Horn Sports, when Steve Sarkisian was asked his opinion regarding the Pavia case during a news conference, the Longhorns coach said:
"I totally disagree with it. We are going to have 28- and 29-year-olds playing college football. We chose to play junior college football."
Clearly, Sarkisian is not the biggest fan of the eligibility precedent Pavia's ruling may start. The age disparity in collegiate football is already a concern, and the new interpretation of the rule might make it a norm rather than an exception.
As for Pavia, the Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback will be preparing for his last year of collegiate football eligibility before he throws his hat into the 2026 NFL draft.
What's next for Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns?
Steve Sarkisian led the fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns (No. 3 CFP) to an 11-2 record, with his team's sole losses coming against the Georgia Bulldogs. Their first loss was in their seventh game of the season, while their second was in the SEC Championship Game.
The Longhorns will look to put the disappointment behind them as they host the 13th-ranked Clemson Tigers (10-3, No. 16 CFP) in the first round of the expanded playoff on Saturday in Austin, Texas. Expect Quinn Ewers and Co. to attempt to put their SEC Championship Game loss in the past by putting up a dominant performance against their opposition.
While the Longhorns are -440 favorites, anyone can win in a one-off game.
