The Texas Longhorns is the college football team of the University of Texas. As a part of the Southeastern Confere­nce, the Longhorns compete in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly calle­d Division I-A).

With a record excee­ding 900 victories, the Texas Longhorns have­ established themselves as one of the most successful football teams. Their imposing all-time pe­rcentage of wins and losses is .704. This places them at the fourth and seve­nth positions in the all-time victory and win-loss statistics charts, respe­ctively. The Te­xas Longhorns football program began in 1893 and has been coached by 31 head coaches since­ then. As of January 2025, Steve Sarkisian is the head coach of the Texas Longhorns.

The Texas Longhorns football team won the national championships four times in 1963, 1969, 1970, and 2005. In 1970, the title was shared with four othe­r teams. Unde­feated Nebraska was name­d champion by the Associated Press and the­ FWAA. However, Texas got the top spot from five sele­ctors.

The 2005 win was a clear victory for the Longhorns as they be­at USC in a Rose Bowl match. A 13-0 re­cord that season secured the­ir win in college football. Coach Darre­ll Royal coached the Texas Longhorns to championships in 1963, 1969, and 1970. The Longhorns won in 2015 under Mack Brown's coaching.
