The Texas State Bobcats are heading to Veterans Memorial Stadium (AL) on Thursday evening in Sun Belt Conference action to take on the Troy Trojans in Week 6. Neither team has gotten off to a solid start and would use this game as a launching point.
The Bobcats (2-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) are on a two-game losing streak after a 40-39 home loss against the Sam Houston Bearkats on Saturday. Senior quarterback Jordan McCloud had a great game as he finished 29-of-39 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns, as well as four rushing attempts for 17 yards (4.3 yards per carry).
The Trojans (1-4, 0-1) are looking to bounce back after a 13-9 home loss on Saturday to the UL Monroe Warhawks. Sophomore quarterback Tucker Kilcrease was the starting quarterback in this game. He completed 6-of-11 passes for 57 yards while running nine times for 55 yards (6.1 yards per attempt).
Texas State vs. Troy prediction
The Troy Trojans, on paper, are the better team, but many things have changed since this game was placed on the schedule. The main problem for Troy is that its starting quarterback, Goose Crowder, suffered a shoulder injury and could not play too much, as he had just one pass attempt on Saturday. The Trojans offense looked anemic when Crowder was off the field and even though Tucker Kilcrease got valuable game snaps on Saturday, they will not be able to take a massive step.
Jordan McCloud has looked unbelievable, with 12 passing touchdowns and three interceptions, and he came off his best game last week. He has thrown for at least 300 yards in two of the previous three games. The Trojans' passing defense has been unable to get stops as they rank 131st in college football with a 71.2 opposing completion percentage.
Go with the Texas State Bobcats to cover the spread on the road, the under to hit and McCloud to have a great day throwing the football.
