The Texas-Texas A&M rivalry is called the “Lone Star Showdown”. The Texas Longhorns of the University of Texas at Austin and the Texas A&M Aggies of Texas A&M University were originally rivals from 1894 to 2011 when they were members of the Big 12 Conference in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). However, the rivalry ended after Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference to join the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2012.

The Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies are all set to start their rivalry once again on November 30, 2024, which marks their 119th overall encounter and first encounter since 2011. This is because the Texas Longhorns joined the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2024. Notably, Texas uses Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, United States as their home stadium. On the other hand, Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, United States serves as the home stadium for Texas A&M.

Texas-Texas A&M Football Rivalry History

The Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies had a rivalry that lasted 118 years from 1894 to 2011. The two teams first competed on October 19, 1894, and in that first game, Texas defeated Texas A&M 38-0. Eventually, Texas A&M would get their first victory of the rivalry on November 27, 1902, when they defeated Texas with a score of 11-0. The two teams continued to win back and forth until they played the last game on November 24, 2011, with Texas winning the game with a score of 27-25.

This was the end of the first tenure of the rivalry between the two teams. From 2012 onwards, Texas A&M became a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) while Texas remained in the Big 12 Conference till 2023. After the end of the 2023 season, Texas left the Big 12 Conference and became a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2024. Hence, both these teams once again find themselves face-to-face for the first time since 2011 in 2024. They are all geared up to compete for the 119th time on November 30, 2024, thereby restarting their rivalry for the second time. Presently, Texas is leading the rivalry against their opponents with a record of 76-37-5.
