What is the rivalry between the Colorado State Rams and the Wyoming Cowboys called?
The rivalry between the Colorado State Rams and the Wyoming Cowboys is called Border War and the teams play to get their hands on the Bronze Boot Trophy.
The Bronze Boot is a traveling trophy introduced by the ROTC detachments of both colleges in 1968. This is a size-8 boot worn by Captain Dan J. Romero, the CSU ROTC throughout his service period during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967. The trophy is encased in bronze and mounted on a wooden base and has been presented to the winners of the Colorado State-Wyoming rivalry every year since 1968. The members of both, the Colorado State and Wyoming ROTC detachments run a part on U.S. Highway 287 and then meet at the border of the two states to exchange the ball. There, the ROTC department of the home team receives the ball and runs it to the stadium thereby hosting the game. Moreover, the winning team also hoists and parades the Bronze Boot every year around the field which symbolizes the football programs of the two colleges and their ROTC programs.
