Dan Lanning is one of the best coaches in the country right now. After spending three years as a defensive coordinator with the Georgia Bulldogs, Lanning took Oregon's reigns into his own hands as head coach in 2021.
When Nick Saban retired, many analysts expected Lanning to become the next Alabama head coach before Kalen DeBoer got the job.
However, Oregon HC made his intentions clear with a motivational video posted on his X account, which ended with the statement:
"If you're worried your coach is gonna leave, then come play for us. The Ducks arent going anywhere."
The video suggested that Lanning is building a dynasty in Oregon —. from making bold moves in the transfer portal to intense training sessions.
During a recent conversation with Will Thompson on his YouTube channel "Bussin with the Boys," Dan Lanning spoke about the sacrifices he makes in his personal life to excel at his job and how he finds ways to incorporate both.
"There is no balance in this profession," Lanning said. "There's gonna be sacrifice, we talked to the same thing with a player. You gotta be willing to sacrifice something that's valuable. One of those things, we sacrifice is itime with our family, so that's not gonna come back. So for me to be the best coach. I can be here in Oregon i'm gonna be eliminating some of that time that I spent with my group."
"What it means is what I do at that time, It's got to be important, it's got to be intentional. You gotta figure out a ways to incorporate what you gotta do with work and what you gotta to at home. So like last night, the entire team's over at my house, hanging out with my wife and kids so I get to be with the family. They get to be there to the extended family." (1:47:22)
Deion Sanders claps back at Dan Lanning over "playing for clicks" comments
Deion Sanders' Colorado had a successful run during the first few weeks of the 2023 college football season, as they bagged three out of four victories against Texas Christian, Nebraska, and Colorado State. However, things went downhill after a devastating 42-6 score during their matchup against Dan Lanning's Oregon.
Right before the marquee matchup, the Oregon head coach was captured giving a fired-up speech to the Ducks, where he took a dig at Deion Sanders and the Colorado crew.
During the speech, Dan Lanning said:
"The Cinderella story is over, man. They're fighting for clicks; we're fighting for wins."
Nine months after the game, Deion Sanders addressed the viral pregame speech in a conversation with the "Nelk Boys." The Colorado head coach said:
“Did you hear any other speech that he made during the whole season? Who is playing for the click? This is what I really do. In high school, you can date it back on YouTube or whatever, this is what I do with my team, this is who we are. It’s not playing for something or playing for a click, why would I need exposure?” (23:10)
