Earning your way onto the field as a freshman in college football can be one of the most difficult things to do in the sport. Only a select few freshmen in history have made a significant immediate impact.

As the summer months continue, the NCAA football season continues to creep closer, with the nation's top recruits set to make their first appearances. Here's a look at the top 10 freshmen who have the potential to make an impact.

#10, Jaylen Mbakwe, Alabama

Five-star recruit Jaylen Mbakwe will join the defensive backs group at Alabama this season. He was ranked as the second cornerback in the 2024 class by 247Sports and spent time at wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back in high school. The 5-foot-11 Pinson, Alabama, native earned 29 offers from top programs, including Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Michigan.


#9, Myles Graham, Florida

Myles Graham, a 6-0, 222-pound, four-star recruit from Gainesville, Florida, will play for his hometown college football team, the Florida Gators, in 2024 as the fourth-ranked linebacker in his class by ESPN. He competed in the Under Armour All-American Game while also participating in track and field during high school.


#8, Ryan Williams, Alabama

Five-star recruit Ryan Williams will be joining the Alabama receiving core after getting college football offers from schools including Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Michigan. He is the third-ranked wide receiver in the 2024 class by 247Sports and was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Alabama in 2022 and 2023.


#7, Micah Hudson, Texas Tech

Wide receiver Micah Hudson is the fifth-ranked wide receiver recruit in the college football class of 2024. Hudson stands at 6-0 and averaged an outstanding 19.1 yards per reception during his four seasons at Lake Belton High School in Temple, Texas. Hudson will stay in his home state to play for Texas Tech.

LJ McCray is the top-ranked defensive lineman in college football's class of 2024 and will stay in his home state to attend Florida. He was a force on the defensive line during his high school career, finishing with 18.0 sacks and 62.0 tackles for loss.


#5, TJ Moore, Clemson

Freshman wideout TJ Moore stands at a towering 6-4 and finished his senior year of high school with 1,272 yards and 17 touchdowns. He's played snaps on both sides of the ball and is the fourth-ranked receiver recruit in the 2024 class by 247Sports. He was honored as a selection to play in the All-American Game on NBC and made his commitment to play at Clemson over Alabama, LSU, Michigan and Ohio State.


#4, Ellis Robinson IV, Georgia

Cornerback Ellis Robinson will join a Georgia defense that ranked inside the top five in opponent points per game last season. He was a selection to the Under Armour All-America Game and is ranked as the top cornerback prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Robinson is also the second-ranked overall prospect in college football's 2024 class and was a finalist for the Maxwell Football Club Defensive Player of the Year during his senior season.

Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola will compete for the starting job as a freshman and was the second-ranked college football recruit at his position. He originally committed to Georgia before flipping his commitment to Nebraska to play for Matt Rhule.

Raiola led Buford High School to an 11-2 record as a senior, throwing for 2,666 yards and 34 touchdowns with just one interception. He's the son of former NFL and Nebraska center Dominic Raiola, who played for the Huskers from 1997 to 2000.

Five-star recruit Cam Coleman will attend Auburn as the second-ranked wide receiver in the 2024 class by 247Sports. He was a finalist for Mr. Football in Alabama as a senior, hauling in 61 passes for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns. The explosive wide receiver was also a star basketball player at Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama, and has early-round NFL draft upside.

Jeremiah Smith was the top overall recruit in the 2024 class by 247Sports and is expected to be an immediate starter on a loaded Ohio State squad. He was a MaxPreps National Player of the Year finalist in 2023 at Chaminade-Madonna Prep after bringing in 88 passes for 1,376 yards and 19 touchdowns.

He also has experience playing snaps at defensive back and has the potential to become an early first-round NFL draft selection.
