The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have been one of the teams that have not been too affected by the NCAA transfer portal thus far, as only four players have entered as of this writing. With the Rate Bowl game against the Kansas State Wildcats happening in a few hours, there are still some impactful players who are likely not going to be part of the program.
Let's take a closer look at the key players who have already entered the transfer portal for the Scarlet Knights.
Top Rutgers players currently in the transfer portal
Chris Long, WR
Senior wide receiver Chris Long is one of the players who have entered his name into the transfer portal, and he actually has the fourth-most receiving yards on the team this season. So far, he has 11 catches for 163 yards (14.8 yards per reception) with one receiving touchdown. With one of their top players not going to be with the program, the offense is going to suffer a bit in the Rate Bowl.
Timmy Hinspeter, LB
Junior linebacker Timmy Hinspeter is another member of the Scarlet Knights who entered his name in the transfer portal. He is going to be missed, as he has continuously been playing but has not really posted many counting stats on the season.
Entering the bowl game, Hinspeter has 16 total tackles (four solo, 12 assisted) and nothing else. Hinspeter has shown flashes of being a more significant player in the program but has decided to search for a new opportunity.
Wesley Bailey, DT
Senior defensive tackle Wesley Bailey has shown the ability to be a solid player on the defensive line throughout the last few seasons but has not played much as he was shut down earlier this season after the program's bye week. However, Bailey was able to record nine total tackles (four solo, five assisted) with a sack and a pass deflection while on the field.
Bailey is a big body that is able to be a force on the defensive line and get to the quarterback. Losing him as a starting defensive end will make it tough to replace his ability to get into the backfield consistently.
