BYU had an amazing season, but still finds itself sorting through the rubble of the transfer portal. Even ahead of the Alamo Bowl matchup with Colorado, BYU has lost some significant contributors to their program. Here are the top five BYU players who have already entered the portal.
Top 5 BYU players in the portal ahead of Alamo Bowl
5. Micah Harper, S
A 5-foot-10 safety, Harper's career was short-circuited by injuries. He had a brilliant 2022 season, making 62 tackles, including three tackles for losses and three passes broken up.
However, an ACL injury caused him to miss the entire 2023 season. Harper opened 2024 by seeing significant time, but was again held back by injury. He finished with 11 tackles and will have one year left to play.
4. Sione Moa, LB
A transfer from Utah State, Moa saw action in two seasons off the bench with the Cougars. He had 14 tackles in 15 total games with BYU. Moa will only have one year of remaining eligibility ahead. His experience should ensure that another FBS program will give him a chance for a successful finish to his collegiate career.
3. Aisea Moa, LB
The brother of fellow linebacker Sione Moa, Aisea spent three seasons at BYU. He redshirted and then saw little action in 2023. Aisea did see more time in 2024, which is why he jumps his brother in these rankings. He had 16 tackles and a tackle for loss at linebacker. He has two seasons of remaining eligibility, which might also make him more attractive for schools in the portal.
2. Kody Epps, WR
Epps has spent five seasons at BYU and had an odd career arc. Back in 2022, Epps caught 39 passes for 459 yards and six touchdowns. Injuries shortened his time on the field, as Epps never played more than eight games in any season.
His career totals are 73 catches for 819 yards and seven touchdowns. He has one year of eligibility left and has chosen to head to Western Kentucky.
1. Crew Wakley, S
Wakley transferred in from Utah State and saw significant time at safety in the last two seasons with the Cougars. Wakley had 59 tackles in 2023 and 44 stops in 2024. He managed one interception in 2023 and two more in 2024.
Wakley was a walk-on at Utah State, but his time at BYU demonstrates he's become a competent starting safety in a power conference.
He'll have two seasons of remaining collegiate eligibility, as he played in just four games at Utah State. Wakley is a player to watch in 2025.
