Week 9 of the college football season had a few significant teams that lost and now are going to be in a strange position going forward. Here's a deeper dive into some of the biggest losses and discuss why it is tough to bounce back.
Costliest losses of Week 9 college football
#1 LSU losing to Texas A&M
The LSU Tigers suffered a huge loss in Week 9 to the Texas A&M Aggies 38-23. They now fell out of the SEC Championship Game after getting tied for third spot in the standings.
They have two losses and play their next game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. No doubt, this matchup will be a challenging one for Brian Kelly.
#2 Vanderbilt losing to Texas
The Vanderbilt Commodores have been gaining momentum in the Southeastern Conference as they entered Week 9 on a three-game winning streak.
However, they dropped out of the AP Poll after losing to the Texas Longhorns at home 27-24 and now need to figure out how to improve.
They are now eighth in the SEC standings so it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back and avoid a losing streak.
#3 Navy losing to Notre Dame
The Navy Midshipmen lost their first game of the season against Notre Dame Fighting Irish 51-14. The Midshipmen coughed the ball up six different times and completely turned into a pumpkin against their first real test.
#4 Rice losing to UConn
This game was not a high caliber matchup of Week 9 but was the final game that coach Mike Bloomgren was part of.
The Owls fell to 2-6 on the season and only had 178 total yards of offense. The team just looked lost and costing the coach their job was one of the most difficult moments of the entire week.
#5 Missouri losing to Alabama
The Missouri Tigers lost on the road to a struggling Alabama Crimson Tide 34-0. Spectators viewed this as Crimson Tide getting back on track but it was a miserable performance by the Tigers.
They were 3-of-13 on third down and threw three interceptions. The loss dropped them to 25th in the AP Poll and on the verge of being unranked entirely.
