The transfer portal season has been rough on the Oklahoma Sooners. Off a 6-6 regular season, the Sooners have seen a significant exodus from their program. Even as Oklahoma prepares to face Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl, it has some massive losses to face. Here are the five top losses to the portal so far for the Sooners.
5 biggest pre-bowl portal losses for Oklahoma
5. Joshua Bates, OL
Bates was a four-star recruit who picked Oklahoma out of Colorado. He redshirted in his first season, 2023, only playing in one game. In 2024, Bates was part of a revolving gate up front for the Sooners.
He played in four games and started two at center. He'll have three seasons of eligibility left and has chosen SMU for his next destination. He could see immediate action as an interior lineman there.
4. Eugene Brooks, OL
Brooks was a high four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He hails from California and his recruitment was seen as a massive win for the Sooners.
Instead, after a season of spot duty, mostly on special teams, he's heading out of town. Brooks played in only four games, so he was able to redshirt the 2024 season. He has a full slate of eligibility for his new school and chose to return to his home state to play for UCLA.
3. Dasan McCullough, LB
McCullough has had a checkered career. He was one of the highest-rated signees in Indiana history and earned freshman All-American honors there in 2022. He transferred to Oklahoma, where his two seasons have been somewhat underwhelming. McCullough totaled 47 tackles across the two years.
He was slowed by injury in 2024, but still never played quite as well as he did at Indiana. He has a year of eligibility remaining and chose to transfer to Nebraska for that season.
2. Jackson Arnold, QB
Arnold was a five-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. He saw significant snaps behind Dillon Gabriel in 2023 and was believed to be ready to take the job in 2024.
Arnold struggled throughout the season, as injuries decimated Oklahoma's receiver corps. Arnold finished with 1,421 passing yards and 12 touchdowns against three interceptions.
Arnold elected to transfer to Auburn, where he's the presumptive starter. He'll have two seasons of college football eligibility still ahead.
1. Nic Anderson, WR
Anderson was a four-star recruit in 2022 who had an epic freshman season in 2023 before injuries scuttled his 2024 season. Anderson played in just three games as a true freshman, but in 2023, had 38 catches for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. A hip injury delayed and then ended his 2024 season, as he played in just one game.
All of this means that Anderson still has three seasons of eligibility at his new school. He chose to stay in the SEC with a move to LSU.
