The transfer portal opened on Dec. 9 so players could find a new team for next season. Several quarterbacks have reportedly expressed interest in joining a new program this year or announced their departure from their alma mater.

The transfer portal allows players to reshape their college careers by seeking a new team. One example is quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who left the Oklahoma Sooners last year to join the Oregon Ducks.

Gabriel has shared that his decision to transfer to the Ducks helped improve his career path. He has led his team to a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs and is among the finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

Several quarterbacks intend to enter the transfer portal to play for a better-suited program this season. Here are the top five players who could be swapping teams next year.

Top five QBs in the transfer portal

#5 TJ Finley, Western Kentucky

Quarterback TJ Finley is a player fans may look out for as he looks for his new team.

On Dec. 7, he tweeted that he would be entering the transfer portal after one season with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Finley suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the Hilltoppers 49-21 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in Week 3 on Sep. 14.

He ends his run with Western Kentucky, completing 48 passes for 490 yards and one touchdown. Finley transferred from the Texas State Bobcats to the Hilltoppers last year, where he showed his ability as a quarterback.

In 2023, he ended the season with the Bobcats, completing 279 passes for 3,439 yards and 24 touchdowns. Finley also led his team to a dominant 45-21 win over the Rice Owls to capture the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Dec. 26, 2023.

As he recovers from his injury, Finley could be a great acquisition for a team needing a quarterback.

#4 Jackson Arnold

Jackson Arnold could look to be a starting quarterback for another team as he wraps up his season with the Oklahoma Sooners. On3's Pete Nakos reported on Dec. 9 that Arnold will enter the transfer portal and predicted that he will play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs next year.

The sophomore quarterback has completed 154 passes for 1,421 yards and 12 touchdowns. Arnold hasn't publicly announced whether he intends to leave his team. After helping lead the Sooners to become bowl-eligible, he may be a good target for teams like Mississippi State if he becomes available.

#3 Brendon Lewis

Brendon Lewis is another quarterback who has publicly expressed interest in playing for a new team next year.

On Dec. 9, the Nevada Wolf Pack star tweeted that he would enter the transfer portal. Lewis shared that he is open to staying with the Wolf Pack but wants to explore his options.

Lewis ended the season completing 211 passes for 2,290 yards and 16 touchdowns.

He also has 157 carries for 775 yards and eight touchdowns, showing his ability to score on the run. He will need to decide if he wants to leave Nevada, but other teams could make a strong pitch for him to be their new starting quarterback.

#2 Tyler Van Dyke

Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke may be looking for another team to end his college career on a high note.

Van Dyke transferred to the Wisconsin Badgers last year after four seasons with the Miami Hurricanes. He hoped to lead the Badgers to the College Football Playoffs. However, Van Dyke suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sep. 14.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on Dec. 9 that the quarterback will be exiting Wisconsin to finish his senior year with a new program.

Van Dyke enters the transfer portal with experience as a starting quarterback for Miami and Wisconsin. If he leaves the Badgers', he could be a nice addition to a team.

#1 Chandler Morris

Chandler Morris is one of the best quarterbacks this season who could enter the transfer portal.

He led the North Texas Mean Green to six wins, making the team eligible for a bowl game. After a breakout year as the starting quarterback, Nakos reported on Dec. 9 that Morris plans to transfer.

Morris has completed 322 passes for 3,774 yards and 31 touchdowns. He has the skill set to help a team looking for a starting quarterback to lead them to the postseason.
