The thing that makes Hunter special and a serious contender is he is a two-way threat. On offense, he has been one of the most effective wide receivers. In five games, he has 46 receptions for 561 yards (12.2 yards per reception). He also averages 112.2 yards per game and has scored six receiving touchdowns.

Hunter also plays cornerback and has made 16 tackles, including 11 solo efforts. Additionally, he has two interceptions which he has returned for a combined 38 yards.

Ashton Jeanty has steadily increased his stock with each stellar performance for Boise State this year. In four games, he has 82 carries for 845 yards (10.3 yards per carry). He has scored 13 touchdowns and has had at least one run of 64 yards or more in each game this season.

Looking at the odds and stats, Travis Hunter has the better case. These two players are somewhat equal offensively but when you consider Hunter is an excellent defender too, that would likely give him the edge in the minds of voters.
