Colorado linebacker Trevor Woods has been through good and bad times with the Buffaloes, but he's moving on. He entered the transfer portal and severed one of the team's last ties with the pre-Deion era. A talented veteran linebacker, Woods saw a massive role at Colorado that had faded.
A three-star recruit from Texas, Woods from was brought to Colorado as a safety but transitioned to a role as a linebacker. Woods started one game in 2021 and made 23 tackles. In 2022, he managed 84 tackles in 10 games. In 2023, with Sanders running the show, Woods had 56 tackles in nine games.
In 2024, Woods played in just four games, making 14 tackles, but also preserving his ability to redshirt. Here are four schools that might go after Woods in the transfer portal.
Trevor Woods transfer portal: Portal landing spots
#4 Oklahoma State
The 3-9 Cowboys were one of the most disappointing teams in college football in 2024. Much of the issue came on defense, where OSU allowed 500.6 yards per game. With Mike Gundy's job likely on the line, a veteran defender who can shore up the defense is huge.
For Woods, the move is a step within the same conference and closer to home. He's unlikely to face as much of a battle for playing time, and he did at Colorado. Oklahoma State could be the new home of Woods.
#3 Mississippi State
Along the same lines, MSU's defense was awful. The 2-10 Bulldogs allowed almost 75 yards per game more than the next worst defense in the SEC. Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs are adding players by the minute, and Woods could be a significant help.
Meanwhile, Woods could finish up his college career in the nation's premier conference and with a team that could use any shred of veteran leadership that he can provide. It's not a bad fit.
#2 Houston
The 4-8 Cougars and Willie Fritz can use talent, and a veteran in-state defender could be a natural. Most of Houston's problems were of the offensive nature, but a veteran leader who has been through four seasons of major conference football would be helpful.
For Woods, the combination of easy playing time and the move closer to home could make Houston an attractive landing spot. He'd also be staying in the Big 12 and could help a state school rebound.
#1 Texas Tech
The Red Raiders might be the best fit for Woods. The 8-4 Red Raiders made genuine progress this season, but their defense lagged. Tech allowed 451.9 yards per game, next to worst in the league and over 35 yards behind the next team ahead of them. Woods could help.
Meanwhile, the stack of possible reasons for a fit align neatly here. It's an in-state school that both needs immediate help and had a solid season that could give the Red Raiders a shot at the College Football Playoff. Woods might end up at Tech.
