Tulane is a 16.5-point favorite to defeat Charlotte on the over/under, which is set at 55.5 points.
The Green Wave are on a five-game winning streak and have been playing great football. In the road win over North Texas, the Green Wave quarterback Darian Mensah threw for 175 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Running back Makhi Hughes rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown.
“You take out the interception, and you feel really good about the way he played,” coach Jon Sumrall said about the win, via NOLA.com. “It was an unforced error really. They had us covered down, and we need to know not to try to force one in there. We don’t need to do anything fancy. Just play clean.”
Mensah has thrown for 1,583 yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions this season. Hughes has rushed for 939 yards and nine touchdowns.
Linebacker Tyler Grubbs has made two interceptions, three sacks and 35 tackles, which all lead the team.
Charlotte, meanwhile, is on a two-game losing streak. Against Memphis, the 49ers running back Cartevious Norton had two touchdowns with 86 yards, while wide receiver O'Mega Blake had 128 yards on three receptions for a touchdown.
“I thought we played pretty well. I’m not ready to throw the defense or anybody else under the bus. It was a really good college football game, and we just lost it at the end,” coach Biff Poggi said, via Charlotte Observer. ... “I told them I was really proud of them. They never quit. We have an excellent football team, and we do not have time to hang our heads. We played hard.”
The 49ers have been playing both quarterbacks Deshawn Purdie and Max Brown, and this will likely continue against Tulane. Charlotte is led by Blake, who has 419 yards and five touchdowns, while as a team, they have 14 sacks and eight interceptions.
Tulane should be able to go on the road and blow out Charlotte here. The 49ers defense is a concern, and Tulane's offense should be able to score at will for a double-digit win.
Prediction: Tulane 37, Charlotte 21
