Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) Warhawks assistant coach Cameron Blankenship will face internal discipline after an intense sideline incident during ULM's game against Marshall on Saturday.

Reportedly, ULM is set to discipline Blankenship, addressing the issue internally as a personnel matter.

ULM assistant coach Cameron Blankenship to be disciplined for "unacceptable behaviour"

In the 28-23 loss, Blankenship, who serves as the offensive line coach, was seen aggressively confronting offensive lineman Drew Hutchinson. He ran onto the field in a fit of anger, shouted, slammed his headset, and later followed Hutchinson to the bench area, where he shoved the player.

The clash was captured on video, showing Blankenship stopping only after player #3 intervened, helping to calm the situation.

Hutchinson, a redshirt sophomore seeing his first game action, was previously redshirted in 2022 and didn’t play as a freshman.

ULM Athletics quickly addressed the incident, stating that Blankenship’s actions were "unacceptable" and not reflective of ULM's values.

“In Saturday's game at Marshall, Assistant Coach Cameron Blankenship made physical contact with a ULM student-athlete on the sideline,” statement from ULM Athletics. “This behavior is unacceptable and not how ULM football conducts business.”
“There will be disciplinary action taken against the assistant coach. Because this is a personnel matter, the discipline will be handled internally.”

They confirmed disciplinary measures would be taken, though specifics remain private as it’s an internal personnel matter.

This season marks Blankenship’s first with the Warhawks as their offensive line coach. The ULM football team, now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Sun Belt Conference, heads back on the road for another conference showdown on Saturday, looking to put this incident behind them.

Cameron Blankenship brings a strong track record from his time with New Mexico

Cameron Blankenship steps into his first season as ULM's offensive line coach in 2024, bringing a strong track record from his time with New Mexico, where he led the offensive line to rack up 2,312 rushing yards last season, placing 19th nationally.

Prior to that, he spent seven years with UAB, working initially as an assistant strength coach before moving to offensive line coach in 2022. During his tenure, UAB’s offensive line produced 11 All-Conference USA players. A native of Alexander City, Alabama, Blankenship was a three-year starter for UAB from 2012-14.

This season, the Warhawks are just one win away from ending their bowl drought that dates back to 2012. They’ll face Texas State on Nov. 9, with kickoff set for noon ET on ESPNU.
