UTEP vs Louisiana Tech Preview
UTEP is a seven-point underdog on the road, while the over/under is set at 50 points.
The Miners picked up its first win of the season last week at home. UTEP was trailing by one going into the fourth quarter, but the Miners outscored FIU 10-0 in the final quarter to get the win.
“I feel like a winner,” said coach Scotty Walden post-game, via TheProspectorDaily. “I’m so proud of this team and proud of the coaching staff. It’s all about our spirit, and Miner spirit never dies.”
In the win, UTEP was led by Jevon Jackson, who rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. The defense also recorded four interceptions.
This season, the Miners have been led by wide receiver Kenny Odom, who has recorded 530 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Skyler Locklear has thrown for 953 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
Defensively, UTEP is led by Lantz Russell, who has two picks; KD Johnson and Maurice Westmoreland both have 2.5 sacks; and Dorian Hopkins, who leads the team with 56 tackles.
Louisiana Tech, meanwhile, is coming off a double-OT loss to New Mexico State.
"It was a tough game. The biggest takeaway from me, I don't know if we gathered our team's attention like we should have. We had chances to make plays on all three sides of the football," Coach Sonny Cumbie said.
"That is disappointing. Our team has to be able to handle what we did five days ago. Everybody in this league can win. When you let a team hang around like we did, you are going to be in for a ball game. We just did not make the plays we needed to."
In the loss, Evan Bullock threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, Omiri Wiggins rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Tru Edwards had 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs should win against UTEP, who has struggled this season. Louisiana Tech should be able to get out to an early lead and hold onto it for a win.
Prediction: Louisiana Tech 33, UTEP 24
