Wake Forest vs UConn: Preview

Wake Forest is a two-point underdog on the road, while the over/under is set at 57.5 points.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a blowout loss to Clemson in a game Wake Forest led 7-0 after the first quarter. Yet they allowed 28 points in the second quarter as the game got out of hand.

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson says the turnovers were the difference in the game.

"Certainly thanks to the fans and students who came out. I wish we had played better for them. Today, we got beat by a better football team and we got beat by a better football program. Against Clemson, we have to play really well," Clawson said, via the team website.
"Those two turnovers in the first half that led to two touchdowns really put us in a deep hole and, again, they're a really good program. We know when we play them there's a small margin of error.
"I trust that our players will press on. We've got a lot of football left. It is what it is; a bad day at the office, and we've got to get better."

The Demon Deacons have been led by quarterback Hank Bachmeier, who's thrown 1,439 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Demond Claiborne has led the way with 524 yards and six touchdowns.

On defense, Wake Forest is led by Nick Anderson, who has 69 tackles, while as a team they have seven sacks and four interceptions.

UConn, meanwhile, is coming off their open week, and before that, they had a win over Temple at home in a game where quarterback Joe Fagnano struggled as he threw two picks.

The Huskies are also getting healthier and coach Jim Mora is pleased where his team is at.

“Going into a bye at four and two, with some momentum and being able to look at it and be tough on your guys, rather than being three and three is huge for us. We’ll get a chance to get some guys back before we play again in a couple of weeks against Wake," Mora said, via WFSB.

This should be a close game, but UConn has had the extra week to prepare for the game, and with it being at home, the Huskies should be able to edge out a win.

Fagnano should be much better in this spot, as Wake Forest's defense has struggled at times, while their offense also does turn over the ball.

UConn's defense will be the difference here as the Huskies improve to 5-2 and get one game away from bowl-eligibility.

Prediction: UConn 33, Wake Forest 30
