The Arizona State Sun Devils didn't get much going in the first half of their College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against the Texas Longhorns, and running back Cam Skattebo was one of the players who have been frustrated with the situation.
With a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half and the Longhorns holding a 17-3 lead, the Arizona State Sun Devils were facing a fourth-and-10 situation. However, quarterback Sam Leavitt wasn't able to get rid of the ball and instead took a sack to lose possession on the drive. The cameras showed Skattebo visibly frustrated on the bench.
Cam Skattebo was held in check in the first half as he had 13 rushing attempts for 45 yards (3.5 yards per carry) as well as three receptions for 9 yards. It will be interesting to see if Skattebo and the Sun Devils can have a better second half and make this more of a game.
Where is the best fit for Cam Skattebo in the 2025 NFL draft?
Senior running back Cam Skattebo is likely playing his final season of college football as he is eligible for the 2025 NFL draft.
He has been a force who has been overshadowed by how well Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty as Skattebo entered Wednesday with 263 rushing attempts for 1,568 yards (6.0 yards per carry) with 19 touchdowns while also adding 37 receptions for 506 yards z(13.7 yards per catch) with three touchdowns.
Skattebo has shown a lot of glimpses as a dominant playmaker, but his blocking is going to need to improve to be playing on Sundays. He has shown enough to be selected in the draft, and he should be taken late in the second day to early in Day 3 of the 2025 NFL draft as Skattebo should be a fourth- to fifth-round selection.
He will likely be used as a rotational running back, and it will be interesting to see how he does against elite teams, which we get to see in the College Football Playoff as a bit of a preview.
