The Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines faced off in a Week 2 matchup at Ann Arbor on September 7. During the game, Texas Longhorns star quarterback Quinn Ewers was hit hard by a Michigan Wolverines player.
Following the hit, a massive brawl broke out, as the Longhorns weren't pleased with the unnecessary roughness.
The game ended with the Longhorns securing a 31-12 victory over the Wolverines.
Quinn Ewers is in his third season at Texas
It's only proper that the Longhorns protect their star quarterback. Quinn Ewers, who enters his third season with the program, is one of the best players in college football.
Ewers transferred to Texas after a short stint at Ohio State. He excelled in his redshirt freshman year at Texas, playing in ten games and putting up a stat line of 2,177 yards, 15 TDs and six interceptions. For his efforts, CFB coaches named him an honorable mention for the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Ewers was even better in Year 2, starting 12 games and putting up a stat line of 3,479 yards, 22 TDs and six interceptions. He added 75 rushing yards and five TDs for good measure. Ewers was a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards, and he was also ranked in the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 25 list. He enters 2024 as one of the most lauded players in all of college football.
Quinn Ewers is a projected first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
On CBS Sports' latest NFL mock draft, Quinn Ewers landed third overall to the New York Giants and was the first QB off the board. He is one of three Longhorns projected in the first round of the mock draft.
Mike Renner of CBS Sports said this about the Texas star (per Athlon Sports):
"Ewers played with a level of comfort in the Longhorns' Week 1 win that we hadn't seen from him in his first two years with the Longhorns. The five-star pedigree shone through with numerous high-level anticipation throws."
Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Georgia's Carson Beck are the other quarterbacks projected to be drafted in the first round of the CBS mock draft.
