West Virginia vs Cincinnati: Preview
West Virginia is a five-point underdog and the over/under is set at 56.5 points.
The Mountaineers entered the season with hopes of contending in the Big 12 but have struggled this year. However, they earned a hard-fought victory against Arizona, as their offense performed well.
"Big win," West Virginia coach Neal Brown said after the game, via SI. "Really proud for everyone - everyone associated with the program. We had a really good turnout from our fans. We had a good turnout in gold and blue. The gold is obviously easy to spot, but I thought we had a good crowd for being that far away.
"Over 2,000 miles traveled after a really tough stretch. Our guy’s backs are against the wall. A lot of negativities, a lot of adversity and we come out here without three of our four captains."
The Mountaineers are led by Jaheim White who has rushed for 508 yards and five touchdowns and Hudson Clement has 383 receiving yards and three TDs.
Defensively, West Virginia is led by T.J. Jackson's 4.5 sacks and Josiah Trotter's 58 tackles.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati is coming off an open week but lost a tough matchup against Colorado in the previous week. Bearcats coach Scott Satterfield gave credit to the Buffs for outplaying his team.
"First of all, you're disappointed in the loss," Satterfield said in the postgame presser on Oct. 26. "We did not play great early defensively, and offensively we didn't get things going.
"You have to give credit to them; they have some really good football players at wide receiver and Shedeur Sanders is a very accurate passer. Defensively, they do a good job in man coverage. We had problems early in the game getting loose, and with tight coverage, it's hard to get the ball in there."
The Bearcats are led by Brendan Sorsby who has thrown for 2,108 yards, 15 TDs, and four interceptions. Corey Kiner has rushed for 692 yards and two TDs.
Defensively, Josh Minkins has two interceptions, Jared Bartlett has 5.5 sacks and Jake Golday has 45 tackles.
Cincinnati and West Virginia are having disappointing seasons, but at home and after a bye, this is a good spot for the Bearcats to get back to their winning ways.
Cincinnati will be well-rested for this game while West Virginia has some injuries, which will hurt its defense.
Prediction: Cincinnati 27, West Virginia 24.
