The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers is the college football team of Western Kentucky University, competing in Conference USA (C-USA). The football program was established in 1908 and claimed one national championship in 2002. They play their home games at Houchens Industries–L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Hilltoppers have won 13 conference championships and three division championships. The team is known for a high-powered offense and has been led by head coach Tyson Helton since 2019. WKU helped five players to the Consensus All-Americans team and numerous players to the NFL. Their three biggest rivals are Middle Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, and Murray State.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers had a successful season under head coach Jeff Brohm in 2015. The team concluded that year with a record of 12-2 and won the Conference USA (C-USA) Championship. They also won the Miami Beach Bowl by defeating South Florida with a margin of 45-35. Their quarterback Brandon Doughty, ranked first in passing yards and touchdowns in the nation. WKU finished the season with a No. 24 ranking in the AP Poll, the first time in the school's history.
