Arch Manning's recruitment process was uber-popular due to his ties with Super Bowl champs Eli and Peyton Manning. Arch was a five-star prospect and also the No. 1 overall quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class and studied at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.
He had received offers from the top schools in the nation, like Nick Saban's Alabama and Kirby Smart's Georgia, along with LSU, Clemson, and Virginia. So when Manning announced his decision to commit to Steve Sarkisian's Texas on June 23, 2023, fans were shocked by his choice.
During an interview on his signing day in 2023, Arch Manning expressed his excitement to go to Austin and kickstart his collegiate career (via WGNO):
"The most stressful part was telling the other coaches, that's always a hard thing to do. And I'm grateful for all of them, but I'm excited to get to Texas. I think they're fired up. I was fired up. So I'm just grateful for this opportunity with all these people.
"I mean, obviously I'm focused on success, having success on-off the field, but I really want to enjoy each moment, not get caught up in all the attention stuff like that. I just want to enjoy each day and make a lot of friends and have a fun time along this journey."
He further talked about receiving support from his family during his recruitment process:
"Yeah, my family's been great about giving me advice, and obviously they've done it the right way. They enjoyed college, and that's what I'm going to try." (1:45)
Steve Sarkisian weighs in on Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers' relationship
Fans were eagerly waiting to see the Manning prodigy take the stage in his second year as Quinn Ewers was widely expected to declare for the 2024 NFL. However, to many people's surprise, Ewers decided to come back for another year. Ewers will be the Longhorns' starting quarterback in the 2024 college football season, which means Manning will have to wait another year for his turn.
Many assumed there would be some tension between the two QBs due to the competitive nature of the situation. However, both of them, along with Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, have talked about their relationship and said that there is no bad blood.
During the 2024 SEC Media Days, Sarkisian talked about how Arch Manning supports Quinn Ewers in his endeavors and understands the process:
"These guys are great, great friends. Nobody gets along better. There's a real level of appreciation for what each guy is doing. Because they know the journey, they know the path, they know how we coach him.
"From Archer's perspective, he's watching Quinn have to go through some of the adversity, having a fight through injury, having to deal with the criticism of being the quarterback of Texas. So to see him have success, I think Arch is fired up for Quinn."
It will be interesting to see if Arch Manning does get an opportunity to showcase his abilities in the upcoming college football season, if not, fans will just have to wait.
