Billy Napier is under immense pressure to turn his team around after its recent start. Consecutive losing seasons have put him on the hot seat. Blowout losses to the Miami Hurricanes and Texas A&M Aggies have only increased the heat.

During an episode of ESPN's College Football, the outspoken Gators coach said he initially wanted to be a high school coach like his dad and that becoming a college coach instead is "humbling." (1:10)

"It's humbling, that's what I would say. What an incredible opportunity. I get to coach football for a living. Heck, I wanted to be a high school football coach and do what my dad did. I rolled the dice, took a job at South Carolina State... Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban, Todd Graham. I mean I'm a product of the people I have worked for. The experiences 'I've had, and I get to do that for a living at the University of Florida now."

How Billy Napier got revenge on Dabo Swinney for firing him

Billy Napier began his career as a Clemson graduate assistant in 2003 before leaving for South Carolina State. However, he returned in 2006 and became a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator under Dabo Swinney.

In 2008, Napier led an offensive explosion where the Tigers averaged 410.9 yards and 32.7 points per game. Unfortunately, Clemson's production dropped the next season, and Swinney fired him in 2010.

Soon after, though, Napier was hired as an offensive analyst by now-retired Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban. He was on staff when the team won the 2010 BCS national championship.

Following a brief departure, Napier returned as the Crimson Tide's wide receiver coach in 2013. In 2016, the Tide beat Dabo Swinney's Tigers 45-40 in the national championship game for a measure of revenge.

During his postgame news conference, Napier revealed he was not upset at Swinney for firing him.

“More than anything, it’s (the firing) what allowed me to keep learning and keep looking for ways to improve. The things I really believe and the things I thought were important, to see that going on at Alabama kind of reinforced what I thought it takes to be successful.”

Napier now faces the same pressure he was under in 2010. He may need to reinvent himself as he did under Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa.
