Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders has not had the easiest comeback from injury and was one of the casualties of his team's Week 7 31-28 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. His father, Colorado coach Deion Sanders, criticized his performance after he allowed Wildcats running back DJ Giddens to gain the ground from which the Wildcats won the game.
Before the season began, Shilo had a busy itinerary, including walking the runway during Paris Fashion Week and being cast to play his famous father on the popular television series BMF, season three.
In May, his ever-supportive mother Pilar Sanders posted a message on Instagram to support Shilo for continuing a family tradition of entering the entertainment industry.
"So this is a super proud mommy moment. That's right, that is Shilo. Mummy's firstborn on BMF Starz, they are introducing him. This is his first scripted role," Pilar Sanders said.
Coach Prime showed enthusiasm on Instagram after the news about Shilo playing him in the series broke.
“Season 3, Episode 10 guess who's playing a young PRIME! I’m so proud of Shilo Sanders he did the Doggone THANG! Good Lawd the Sanders boys are exercising all the gifts that GOD gave them and having fun living this life that we only get 1 shot at. Live kids Live. #Dad #Bob,” Deion Sanders wrote.
When Shilo Sanders supported Pilar Sanders over Coach Prime
Deion and Pilar Sanders married in 1999 after the Colorado coach divorced his first wife, Carolyn Chambers. They had an acrimonious divorce in 2013 during which Coach Prime got full custody of their kids.
After Shilo Sanders was returned to his mother's custody, he wrote a cryptic tweet about the family's situation, seeming to take his mother's side over his father.
"After what seems like forever, I'm finally officially back full-time with my mom! My mom having full custody of me is all I have wanted for years. Thank you to the court system for finally seeing the truth and putting me in a healthy, loving environment," Shilo said.
Despite the incident, Coach Prime and his sons have been reunited. Shilo and Shedeur Sanders have played for their father in college football, first at Jackson State and then in Colorado.
After the criticism that Shilo got after Week 7 action, Deion Sanders had kind words for his son during his weekly news conference.
“But, I’m proud of him (Shilo),” Deion Sanders said. “He’s the kid I don’t worry about. I know what I’m gonna get in his game. I know he’s gonna bring it, I know he’s gonna be there. We’ve never had any doubt about how he plays.”
Shilo Sanders has registered 21 total tackles and one for loss this season despite missing a few games with an injury. He has the chance to bounce back from his poor performance against the Arizona Wildcats in Week 8 action.
