When Deion Sanders' daughter Deiondra Sanders suggested murders on JSU campus played part in Coach Prime's departure

Before Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders brought the Sanders effect to the FBS in Boulder, he was the coach of the Jackson State Tigers in the FCS. He coached the Tigers for three seasons before departing for Boulder.

He won two consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference titles (2021, 2022) and finished with a respectable 27-5 record. Still, Sanders departing the HBCU Jackson State for the FBS with Colorado rubbed a few people the wrong way.

His outspoken daughter, Deiondra Sanders gave a possible reason for her father's departure from Jackson State during a 2023 appearance on 'The Baller Alerts Show'.

"The thing that people don't know is like ... it is more than football in Jackson," Deiondra Sanders said. "When my dad makes a decision, he thinks about all aspects of his kids. People don't realize he has to get his kids to go to that school also.
"People don't know that there are killings on the (Jackson State) campus every few months. Yeah, they don't know that. They are breaking into the locker rooms and stealing from the students. It is kind of like my dad giving back to the community, but what is the community giving back to my dad? He doesn't feel safe there."

Deiondra Sanders was asked whether her father felt unsafe on the Jackson State campus and she gave an elaborative answer.

"I don't know what he felt. I am just saying I would not have felt safe there. I don't know what my dad felt. I would feel safe on campus, but the stuff I would see and hear ... my dad gave a lot to Jackson for him to be doing stuff like that. What more could he have done? He did all that he said he would," Deiondra added.

Later, on January 2023, Deiondra also apologized for exaggeration of murders as a potential reason behind Coach Prime's decision to leave Jackson State. She shared a video on X and clarified her previous comments.

"I would like to apologize for a comment that I recently made concerning the JSU murders," she wrote.

Deion Sanders' CBS segment blasted for portrayal of Jackson State

Last year, Deion Sanders was featured in a CBS '60 Minutes' segment with Tomekia Reed, which showcased the Jackson State Tigers' infrastructure looking run down.

Jackson State women's basketball coach Tomekia Reed blasted the CBS segment in a post on X.

“@60Minutes, y’all made Jackson, MS look horrible. You should be ashamed of yourselves for showing the worst house you can find in America and making it like that describes us. I’m not even sure if that abandoned house you showed is even in Jackson. #ThisisHome,” Reed wrote.

Deion Sanders has repeatedly stated his pride at having coached an HBCU side in college football even after leaving Jackson State for Colorado.
