Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders was one of the standout players during his team's Week 8, 34-7 win over the Arizona Wildcats in Tuscon. The win pushed the Buffs to 5-2 and one win away from bowl eligibility despite the loss of two-way star Travis Hunter to injury.
In a throwback clip shared on the "Chasing Sunsets" YouTube channel from last year, Shilo's father Deion Sanders hilariously shot down the idea that the safety is self-motivated (0:30).
"I'm not a guy that needs motivation," Shilo Sanders said.
"Yes, you are," Deion replied. "Yes, you are. I don't need no motivation. You ain't me, you ain't me. That was not passed down to you. That was not one of the traits that you got."
Shilo Sanders regains Coach Prime's trust
Shilo Sanders missed a few games after breaking his forearm against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. His return game against the Kansas State Wildcats in their 31-28 loss also did not go to plan.
During his Kansas State postgame news conference, Deion Sanders, who rued missed opportunities in the game, did not hold back when analyzing his son's performance.
“He played horrible. He was rusty, didn’t have his footing and struggled in open-field tackles. But he’ll do better. I know what he has in him," Coach Prime said.
After the game against the Wildcats, Coach Prime was full of praise for his son during his postgame news conference.
“Proud of you. We weren’t worried about you. You know we weren’t worried about you. That’s the first time they ever saw you vulnerable, so they attacked you like vultures. That’s just how America is,” Coach Prime said to Shilo.
During his postgame news conference, the Colorado safety revealed how difficult it had been for him after last week's performance.
“God is going to test you, and God tested me last week just to see how I’d respond,” Shilo Sanders said. “Everybody goes through ups and downs, and it’s better for me that I went through the down. It made me lock in more, made me watch all my film, made me just prepare to the highest level that I could to come and contribute to this win.”
Shilo Sanders will hope to put his Kansas State performance behind him as he helps the Buffaloes attempt to reach bowl eligibility for the first time in six years and boost his NFL draft stock.
