Predicted top teams in College Football Playoff rankings
There are still six unbeaten teams in college football, but anything can happen with a week's round of games still to be played. The expanded College Football Playoff will include the five highest-ranked conference champions and the seven highest-ranked teams.
Coach Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks top the latest AP Top 25 weekly rankings ahead of coach Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs and coach Steve Sarkisian's Texas Longhorns. They are the early favorites for the playoffs in December.
College Football Playoff executive director Rich Clark outlined the criterion for considering teams for the expanded playoff structure on a conference call with the media this week.
"I don't think a team would be unduly penalized if they lost in a conference championship game," Clark said. "[Rematches] are going to happen."
This season's College Football Playoff rankings will have more interested parties, as several fans are concerned about their team's prospects of making the expanded iteration of the marquee event.
