When a sad Tom Brady called out Michigan over a lost bet to Nate Ebner: "Man, freakin' Wolverines, they can't win a big game, man"

NFL legend Tom Brady has shown his proud affiliation to his alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines, several times in the past. He has also shown his frustration at his former team losing big games, especially the clash against rivals, the Ohio State Buckeyes, during 'The Game'.

Brady lost a bet to New England Patriots teammate Nate Ebner when he picked his alma mater to beat hated rivals, the Buckeyes in Colombia in 2018. Ohio State put on a show, blowing out Michigan 39-62 to reinforce what had become a trend in 'The Game.'

According to reporter Mut Callahan, Brady vented his frustrations and accused the Wolverines of not rising to the occasion.

"Man, freakin' Wolverines. They can't win a big game, man. That was pretty crappy to watch," Tom Brady said.

At that point, the frustration that Tom Brady felt at the Wolverines losing the biggest game of their season was justified. The Wolverines had lost seven consecutive games to Ohio State and 14 of their last 15 clashes with the Buckeyes.

In 2019, the Buckeyes once again blew out the Wolverines 56-27 in Ann Arbor to further deepen their and Brady's despair. That record changed dramatically in 2021 when coach Jim Harbaugh's team won 42-27 and went on a three-game winning streak, culminating in last year's 30-24 win.

When Tom Brady bet his Super Bowl ring before 'The Game'

The stakes of a Michigan Wolverines versus the Ohio State Buckeyes game had never been higher than during the 2023 season. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 3 while the Wolverines were No. 2, and a place in the Big Ten championship game was on the line.

Just to up the stakes, the winner of the game was likely to snag a spot in the college football playoffs.

Before 'The Game', during an episode of Brady's podcast, Let's Go!, Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud made a friendly bet with Brady, which went viral.

Brady even put up one of his Super Bowl rings on the table to illustrate the confidence with which coach Jim Harbaugh's team was approaching the heated clash.

"If Ohio State wins ... you (Stroud) get one of my Super Bowl rings," Tom Brady said. "And if Michigan beats the Buckeyes, then you got to give me all your youth, your agility, your time in the 40 (yard dash) and all your future years in the NFL. How about that?"

The Michigan Wolverines won 30-24 in Ann Arbor and went on and beat the Iowa Hawkeyes 26-0 in the Big Ten championship game. They then completed an unbeaten national championship-winning season to rub salt into Ohio State Buckeyes' wounds and finally vindicated Tom Brady.
