Travis Hunter is expected to play a critical role for the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2024 college football season. As per reports, the upcoming season could also be his last before the player declares for the NFL draft.
As things stand, Hunter is set to graduate in 2026. The cornerback committed to Jackson State in 2022 after graduating from Collins Hills High School. Hunter transferred to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season, along with coach Deion Sanders. He played his sophomore year with the Buffaloes.
Hunter will be a junior when he plays in the 2024 college football season. His senior year will end after the 2025 season.
Is Travis Hunter eligible to declare for 2025 NFL draft?
There are suggestions that Travis Hunter could declare for the 2025 NFL draft, as players who are out of high school for at least three years are draft-eligible. Hunter will complete three years out of high school after the 2024 season and can enter next year's NFL draft.
Colorado coach Deion Sanders, on The Joel Klatt Show in June, said that his sons and Hunter are preparing to enter the NFL.
"I'm a leader of men, not a follower of men," Sanders said. "I'm a father, not a baby daddy. I lead my sons. I don't follow my sons. My sons, Travis included, are getting ready to migrate to the NFL. I'm not following them to the NFL." (Timestamp: 20:23)
Nonetheless, Hunter is set to have another important upcoming season for Colorado. The versatile athlete can be deployed as a wideout or a cornerback.
In his first year at Colorado in 2023, Hunter caught for 721 yards and five touchdowns on 57 receptions as a receiver. He also posted 30 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions as the Buffaloes finished with a 4-8 record.
As Hunter is a two-way star, he's expected to garner interest from top NFL teams. For now, he will want to help Colorado post a winning season in 2024.
