The 2024-25 bowl season kicks off on Dec. 14 and concludes with the College Football Playoff national championship game on Jan. 20. This season marks the inaugural year of the 12-team CFP.
The CFP selection committee is set to release a new list on Tuesday. These rankings will play a critical role in determining postseason matchups as the season reaches its climax.
The first round of the expanded 12-team playoff will begin on Dec. 20, with a primetime game. The action continues the following day with three more matchups.
When are College Football Bowl games announced 2024?
The official announcement of bowl matchups will be on Dec. 8, following the CFP selection committee's release of the 12-team playoff field, followed by bowl organizers revealing their selections and agreements.
The final 2024 CFP rankings show on ESPN is on Dec. 8 at noon ET.
How many wins to be Bowl eligible in 2024?
To qualify for a bowl game, teams need at least six wins and a .500 winning percentage. However, only one victory against FCS opponents can be counted toward eligibility.
Not every team meeting the criteria is guaranteed a bowl spot, especially this year, with the possibility of exceeding 82 bowl-eligible teams.
Several programs are still on the hunt for their sixth win heading into the weekend. These include Appalachian State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Michigan State, New Mexico, NC State, North Texas, Oregon State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.
