Oregon Ducks deputy athletic director Eric Roedl is being tapped for the Villanova Wildcats AD job, according to ESPN insider Pete Thamel on Tuesday. The Wildcats AD job is vacant after Mark Jackson left in August to take the Northwestern Wildcats job.
"Sources: Villanova is targeting Oregon deputy AD/COO Eric Roedl as the school’s new athletic director," Thamel tweeted. "He’s a Villanova graduate and former tennis team co-captain there. He’s played a large role in Oregon football and basketball, including basketball sport administrator.
"Roedl’s range of oversight at Oregon also includes responsibility for business/financial operations, strategic and financial planning, human resources, contracts, information technology, and equipment operations."
According to the Oregon website, Eric Roedl studied at Villanova University for his undergraduate graduating summa cum laude and was the captain of the school's men's tennis team.
Roedl has several affiliations and has a connection with the North Carolina Tar Heels where he further attained his Master's degree and The College of William & Mary from where he got an MBA.
Roedl has three sons (EJ, Ryan and Jake) with his wife Nicole who lives in Eugene with him.
Eric Roedl's professional career
Eric Roedl spent eight and a half years of his professional career as an administrator for Temple University Athletics. He last held the rank of deputy athletics director while serving as the CFO.
He was associate director of athletic business affairs at The College of William & Mary and was the staff accountant for Ernst & Young while obtaining his CPA certification from the same institution.
Roedl moved to Eugene in 2012 as the executive senior associate athletics director before being promoted to deputy athletic director in January four years later. Overall, he has worked for the institution for 12 years.
The Duck's website highlighted Roedl's role in the program's operations and his achievements over the past few years.
"Roedl serves as the sport administrator for the Ducks’ men’s basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s tennis programs and assists the Director of Athletics with administration and oversight of the football program," the description read.
"Roedl also provides leadership to the Ducks’ external operations units including ticket sales/operations, marketing, and fundraising which generate over $60M in revenues annually, assists with facility oversight and capital project coordination, and leads a variety of strategic initiatives for the department."
Eric Roedl being tapped for the Villanova job will be a full circle moment that will take him back to his alma mater.
