Deion Sanders and the Colorado football program continue to make headlines as they welcome former Michigan LB coach George Helow to their coaching staff. Helow has a rich coaching history with powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia and Michigan.
He will join Deion Sanders' defensive unit alongside coordinator Robert Livingston. This strategic move is a part of Coach Prime’s commitment to bolstering the Buffaloes' defense as they gear up for the 2024 season.
Who is George Helow?
The former linebackers coach for the Michigan Wolverines is a defensive mastermind. He played a crucial role in Michigan's rise to a top-tier defense. Jim Harbaugh’s defense was third in total defense and fifth in scoring defense in 2022.
Helow's expertise, honed during stints at Alabama and Georgia, will benefit Colorado's defensive unit a lot. His coaching journey began under the legendary Nick Saban at Alabama, where he first learned the ropes as a defensive intern in 2012.
Over the years, George Helow gained experience at other top programs as well, including Florida State and Maryland, before returning to Alabama as a special assistant. With Helow now on board, Colorado’s commitment to building a top-notch defense aligns perfectly with Coach Prime’s vision for the Buffaloes.
The 36-year-old Florida native will have strategic insights for Prime’s men and is expected to elevate Colorado’s defense to new heights.
Deion Sanders hypes Colorado defense ahead of 2024 CFB season
Coach Prime is sounding the alarm for Colorado's opponents as the 2024 college football season nears. The Buffs coach is fired up about his revamped defense, particularly the pass defense, which he believes will cause serious problems for rival teams.
"Throwing the football against us is going to be a problem," Sanders confidently declared, per On3.
With standouts like Shilo Sanders, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Trevor Woods putting in the hard work, the NFL Hall of Famer has a defense that’s both physical and deep.
This boost in Colorado’s pass defense is crucial. Last season, the Buffaloes struggled, allowing nearly 277 passing yards per game — one of the worst marks in the nation.
However, with the addition of Robert Livingston as defensive coordinator and secondary coach and the hiring of George Helow, Coach Prime is confident his defense is ready to take a big leap. The 2024 season could be a turning point for Colorado’s defense.
