Joey Gaston, the younger brother of hip-hop star Ice Spice, is making waves as one of the toughest quarterbacks in New York City. At 17, he's the starting QB at Iona Prep, one of the nation's premier football programs.
Gaston stayed cool recently as a raucous student section attempted to rattle his composure. According to a video posted by ‘Overtime SZN’, despite some teasing from fans, who donned wigs to mock his sister's signature hairstyle, Joey remained focused.
“They think I'm where I'm at because I'm Ice Spice's little brother,” Joey said.

“But I've been doing this for a long time,” he added. “And I was like, all right, watch what's going to happen. Watch what's going to happen. So I get on that field. I'm never scared. I got a heart of a lion. Don't let my size fool you.”
Joey is a dual-threat quarterback. According to JPAFootball, he runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and is ranked in the state's top 20 for passing and total yards.
This season, he's thrown for 482 yards and scored three touchdowns, contributing to his team's ranking as the second-best in New York, as reported by MaxPreps.

In an open letter to NCSA Sports, Joey said that his high school experience will prepare him for college football.
I’m fearless, competitive and lead by example. l never let anyone outwork me,” Joey said.
According to GQ Sports, Joey aspires to play in the NFL and models his game after Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray.
Last season, he threw for nearly 2,200 yards, rushed for 740 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. He's a young talent to watch, driven by a desire to make his own mark while honoring his family's legacy.
Opponents have teased Joey Gaston by using his sister Ice Spice's lyrics

In January, Joey Gaston shared fun stories about his football career and how opponents have teased him using his sister's lyrics.
During a recent playoff semifinal, as he and his teammates prepared for the second half, he heard the student section chanting, 'He's coming, he's coming.'
“'We love Ice Spice' *clap clap* 'we love Ice Spice," he told Complex. On the next drive, I threw a touchdown, went to the sidelines, and started clapping."
Last year, Joey told GQ Sports about more Ice Spice-related trash talk sent his way. That season, he noticed an opposing student section wearing orange wigs, mimicking Ice Spice's hairstyle. His teammate pointed it out, and Joey had these thoughts:
“Aight, we gon’ see what’s gon’ happen.”
“By the second half, we were blowing them out,” Joey said. “I think it was 42-7, something like that. I start seeing the orange wigs come off. They were embarrassed.”
When asked if people treat him differently now that his sibling is famous, Gaston explained that after his sister's high school yearbook photo leaked, people began making the connection.
Joey dreams of playing in the NFL and is interested in modeling. He is passionate about both and is excited about carving his future prospects.
