Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart's youngest son, Andrew, born in 2012, is a rising star of the Class of 2030. Andrew is making waves in Little League baseball with his impressive performances.
In Friday's game, Andrew shone by hitting a home run during a Little League World Series Regional matchup. He smashed a solo homer over the right-centerfield wall, helping keep Oconee County Little League alive in the Southeast Region Tournament. His mother, Mary Beth, was in the stands, cheering him on.
Oconee County eventually secured victory, defeating South Carolina’s Irmo Little League 8-6. Andrew started pitching in Game 1 against North Carolina, allowing just one run over 2 2/3 innings.
Andrew Smart's sideline bond with father Kirby Smart
Growing up in a sports-centric environment, Andrew often joins his father at football games, fueling his passion for athletics. He's a familiar face on the sidelines and has become a beloved figure among fans, and his passion for Georgia is truly heartwarming.
While the Bulldogs' recent success has many factors, one significant aspect is the close-knit Smart family. Kirby Smart's 11-year-old son, Andrew, has grown up with the program.
According to '11Alive,' Georgia tight end Darnell Washington shared why having Andrew around is so special.
"I mean Andrew is like a little brother to me," he said. "I have lots of nephews, and I got two of my own (kids), two little girls, so I just look at it like one of my own."
Georgia offensive lineman Sedrick Van Pran also appreciates Andrew's presence.
"It's amazing how close he is to us because he kind of looks for individual players before the game to give a dap to or a high five," Van Pran said. "It's a pretty unique experience to have the head coach's son around to kind of look up to you."
After Georgia's national title win, Kirby Smart consoled his tearful son.
“I said, ‘Why are you crying? You’re going to ruin my moment,’ Kirby told reporters.
Andrew replied:
"Stetson (Bennett) is leaving.’”
Andrew Smart has been seen running routes during pre-game warm-ups in the 2022 season, adding to his special connection with the team.
