Eddie Nunez was appointed as the new athletic director at the University of Houston, the school announced Saturday. Nunez, who replaced Chris Pezman, signed a five-year contract with the school and he will be formally introduced at a press conference at TDECU Stadium Club on Wednesday.
Soon after the Univeristy of Houston appointed Nunez, fans were curious to learn more about the Cougars' new athletic director.

Eddie Nunez grew up in Miami, Florida. He went to Miami-Dade Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in arts and architecture in 1995. He also played on the program's basketball team.
Nunez then attended the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management in 1998 and a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration in 2000. He was also part of the Florida Gators basketball team when he played under coach Billy Donovan and was twice on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 1997 and 1998.
After graduating from Florida, Nunez spent two seasons as a graduate assistant under Donovan. He was then appointed as an administrative assistant at Marquette in the men’s basketball program.
Nunez began his career as a collegiate administrator at Vanderbilt University in 2001. He was the Director of Game and Event Management at the University, overseeing the football and men’s basketball programs as well as all postseason games and tournaments. He also assisted in the planning and construction of several facility upgrades at Vanderbilt.
In 2003, Nunez joined LSU as its Director of Game and Event Management and Director of New Projects for the Department. He spent 14 years with the Tigers, where he oversaw the planning and management of the program's athletics strategic plan, marketing and promotions, athletic communications, social and digital media, creative services, video/ network broadcast services and all capital projects.
As per reports, LSU spent a whopping $400 million in facility renovations and construction under Nunez. He also led the renegotiations of a 10-year multi-media rights agreement with Outfront Media Sports.
In August 2017, Nunez was appointed as athletic director at the University of New Mexico. He held the post for seven years and the program totaled 53 NCAA Tournament appearances and 22 Mountain West titles across all sports during his tenure.
On Saturday, Nunez was appointed as the new athletic director at the University of Houston. Houston University president Renu Khator spoke about the school's new hire.
"Eddie Nunez brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success during a time of great transformation in college athletics," Khator said in a statement. "His leadership will be critical as we continue to elevate our athletics programs, enhance the student-athlete experience and build on the tremendous momentum at the University of Houston."
Eddie Nunez has two daughters, Elizabeth and Anna, with his wife Jane.
