Ohio State will enter the 2024 college football season with a lot of anticipation. The Buckeyes are considered one of the favorites for the national championship next season, however, they have some tough opponents to face along the way.
Michigan could still be considered the biggest opponent for Ohio State next season due to the nature of the rivalry. Having lost the last three games in the series, it's undoubtedly the biggest game on the Buckeyes' calendar, especially after coach Jim Harbaugh’s exit.
Coach Ryan Day’s team also has a couple of other big rivals to face in the upcoming college football season, including Penn State, which remains a force in the Big Ten. Another game that might be among the Buckeyes' toughest is their matchup against conference newcomer Oregon, which is also a national championship frontrunner.

Ryan Day lays out Ohio State's goals in 2024
With the number of expectations on the Buckeyes in the upcoming season, Day made known what the team wants to achieve in 2024 during the Big Ten media days at the end of July. While it’s nothing short of many people’s anticipations, he recognized the expectations surrounding his team (via ESPN.com):
“Anytime you're at Ohio State, we know you're going to have expectations. There's always going to be chatter. There's always going to be noise," Day said. "It's our job to block all those things out and just focus on what really matters.
“Our guys, they know what the expectation is. ... We're not going to shy away from that. We want to win the rivalry game [Michigan]. ... win this Big Ten championship, win a national championship," he added.
The Buckeyes boast one of the most improved rosters ahead of the new season with the addition of top names from the transfer portals. The team brought in the likes of Caleb Downs, Quinshon Judkins, Will Howard and a host of others this offseason.
Ohio State also made significant changes in the coaching staff this offseason. Most notable perhaps was Chip Kelly leaving his role as UCLA coach to become the team's new offensive coordinator.
