Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders' ex-wife, Pilar Sanders, has been a regular visitor to Boulder to watch her sons, Shilo and Shedeur, play football under her ex-husband. She also faithfully attended Lady Buffs' games to watch her daughter, Shelomi Sanders, play before she entered the transfer portal and joined the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.
In a clip posted on his YouTube channel from last year, Shilo and his mother had a hilarious exchange about doing activities together until the Buffs safety asked her a question to do with his father, to which Pilar had a sarcastic reply (2:00).
"I just wanna see if you remember. You act like you forget everything that we do together," Pilar said to Shilo.
"Do you forget everything that you and Coach Prime do together?" Shilo asked.
"Who?" answered Pilar Sanders.
When Shilo chose Pilar Sanders over Coach Prime
Pilar Sanders and Coach Prime got married in 1999 after the Colorado Buffaloes coach had gotten divorced from his first wife, Carolyn Chambers, who is also the mother of his children, Deiondra and Deion Sanders Jr.
In 2013, the divorce between Sanders and Pilar was made final, with the former getting custody of their three children, Shilo, Shedeur and Shelomi Sanders, while their mother got visitation rights.
In the course of one of their visitation sessions, Pilar refused to return the kids to their father and accused him of punching and kicking one of his sons, which led to a defamation suit against her. She lost the suit and was ordered to pay Coach Prime $1 million while she was also in jail for a week for contempt of court to add to the acrimonious relationship between the duo.
In 2017, when Shilo Sanders was returned to the custody of his mother, he tweeted a shocking tweet that seemed to suggest that he preferred to be with Pilar Sanders over his father.
"After what seems like forever, I'm finally officially back full-time with my mom! My mom having full custody of me is all I have wanted for years. Thank you to the court system for finally seeing the truth and putting me in a healthy, loving environment," Shilo wrote in the now-deleted post.
During an episode of the "Second Shot" podcast in 2022, Pilar revealed how damaging the divorce proceedings being made so public were to her at the time.
"Unfortunately it was public and it was made very public," Pilar said. "Again, I'm very private. Well, I didn't have a mic, so a lot of things, untruths made it to the media and it's not like I had a way to fight back publicly, nor did I really want to."
Since then, Shilo Sanders has played under his father for both Jackson State and Colorado, and his mother, Pilar Sanders, attends more than a few of his games during the college football season, with the incidences of the past seemingly left there.
