The top-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2025, Dakorien Moore, announced his decision to commit to Oregon on Thursday night. The five-star wideout had previously narrowed his top schools to Oregon, Texas, LSU and Ohio State.
With so many prestigious programs to pick from, many fans may wonder why Moore has opted to commit to Oregon over Texas. The largest factors seem to involve the Ducks' style and coaching staff.
The Duncanville, Texas, native is the fifth-overall ranked recruit in the class of 2025 by 247Sports and has received 33 total offers from top college football programs in the country. He finished his junior season at Duncanville High School with 71 catches, 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Here, we will dive deeper into the possible reasons for the five-star recruit's commitment to Oregon over Texas.
Possible reasons Dakorien Moore picked Oregon over Texas
The unique style
One of the largest factors in Dakorien Moore's decision to commit to Oregon is the one-of-a-kind style of the Ducks' uniforms. Moore discussed the appeal of the team's threads with On3, saying:
"Their uniforms and their style, they're just different. It's unique, and it's not really comparable to any other school I'm looking at."
The Oregon Ducks consistently rank among the programs with the best uniform combinations. They feature multiple helmet, jersey and pants combinations that give them a special visual appeal over other programs.
Coaching staff
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has been at the helm of the Ducks since 2022 and has an overall record of 22-5 over those two seasons. Lanning has built a winning culture and has put a group of intelligent coaches around him as well.
Dakorien Moore also spoke to On3 regarding the coaching staff, specifically about Lanning and wide receivers coach, Junior Adams.
"I just think they have great coaches in general. Coach Lanning knows how to judge people, and he is a good judge of character. And he's really good at building relationships and getting people to trust him. I feel like that reels the great players in. And with Coach Adams, he's just a well-rounded good coach, good mentor and a good person to be around."
Adams is a former college wide receiver himself, playing at Oregon State and Montana State from 1999 to 2002. He was most recently a co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Washington before joining Lanning's staff at Oregon in 2022.
Joining other top WR recruits
Another possible reason for Dakorien Moore's commitment to Oregon over Texas could be due to the Ducks' loaded 2025 recruiting class. More specifically, three extremely talented wide receiver recruits.
They've already gotten commitments from four-star wideouts Dallas Wilson, Isaiah Mozee and Cooper Perry. Moore will be another solid young addition to the Oregon receiving core.
The ninth-ranked quarterback in the class of 2025, Akili Smith Jr. has also committed to Oregon. The four-star QB could build early chemistry with the top WR recruits as they work their way up the depth chart to build something special in the future.
