The LSU Tigers, one of the top college football programs, have been slapped with a lawsuit by former coach Les Miles. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Monday, accuses the school of never giving Miles a say before vacating 37 wins between 2012 and 2015, which dropped his career winning percentage to 59.7%.

Winning percentage is significant for a coach to be eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame. A coach must have won at least 60.0% of his games to be considered for the prestigious honor.

What made the LSU Tigers vacate 37 wins? Let's take a closer look at what happened during that time and discuss what went through the minds of the decision-makers.

Why did the LSU Tigers vacate 37 wins from 2012-15?

Schools are not going to vacate victories for no reason. The LSU Tigers had ample reasons to vacate their victories during those years. The reason behind the team going that route was a Level I violation that came to light after an NCAA investigation.

In 2012, a representative of LSU's athletic interests paid the father of a potential recruit, offensive lineman Vadal Alexander, more than $180,000 over five years as part of an embezzlement scheme. Alexander played for the Tigers from 2012-16, and the representative has been disassociated for 10 years from the program.

If the games were not vacated, Les Miles would have a 145-73 record (66.5%) over 18 years. His winning percentage is 59.7% after having the 37 wins vacated.

Les Miles argues that the LSU Tigers doing just that is keeping him from being considered for the College Football Hall of Fame. Apart from the winning percentage threshold, coaches need to have coached for at least 10 years and 100 games.

According to Miles' lawsuit, he wants the vacated wins to count toward his eligibility to be nominated and inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reported that it is believed that the Oklahoma State Cowboys, LSU Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks have not nominated Miles.

Miles won the 2007 national championship at LSU.
