Why did Travis Hunter's dad not attend Heisman ceremony?  Looking at Hunter Sr's comments leading up to Colorado star's triumph

Travis Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy on Saturday. His mother was in attendance, along with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, coach Deion Sanders, rapper Lil' Wayne and many others. However, his father, Travis Hunter Sr., was not at the venue.

Hunter Sr. told the Palm Beach Post that he did not want to go to the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Instead, he valued being present in more significant life events.

"I don't want to go [to the Heisman Trophy ceremony]. I want to be there when he gets married and when he gets drafted. I'm going to watch this from home," per the Palm Beach Post.

He added that he was not surprised with the level Hunter had reached this season.

"I really don't feel no different because I always know he could win, if he put his mind to win. He's always had that ... since he started playing football when he was 4 years old."

Both events that Hunter Sr. mentioned are coming up quickly. Travis Hunter is expected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL draft, which begins on April 24. He is scheduled to marry his fiancee, Leanna Lenee, the following month.

Travis Hunter Sr. was arrested in 2023 and sentenced to 90 days in the Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade in late September. However, he was released three weeks early.

During his acceptance speech for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter gave his dad an emotional shout-out.

"I know you wanted to be here and you can't, but trust me, I got you," Hunter said. "I'm bringing the trophy home. I love you."

Travis Hunter was able to walk away with the Heisman Trophy after a sensational season for Colorado.

He received 552 first-place votes and 2,231 points, edging out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who secured 309 first-place votes and 2,017 points.
