Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has had a season different from what most people expected. He started the year as a Heisman contender, but injuries derailed those chances. Although he has returned and performed well, there is now a serious conversation about whether he will return for his final season of NCAA eligibility.
When the Longhorns finish their run in the College Football Playoff, Ewers will finish his third season of NCAA eligibility, leaving him with one season remaining. Before the season, Ewers was guaranteed to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, but that is no longer true.
Ewers spoke about his future before the playoff.

"I'm not sure yet," Ewers said. "I’m just trying to win these games. I haven’t thought about anything beyond that."
There is no definitive answer regarding whether Ewers will enter the draft. However, the chances of him returning to college have decreased.
The biggest reason he would stay in college is he wants to increase his draft stock. He will likely enter the draft if he thinks he will be drafted in the first round.
Ewers has played like a star through the first two games of the playoff. He has been a driving force in the Longhorns' two wins. If that continues and the Longhorns make it to the National Championship Game, it is hard to imagine him returning to college.
A look back at Quinn Ewers' college football career
Quinn Ewers started his college career in 2021 when he enrolled at Ohio State during the summer. He joined the team in training camp and debuted that season, taking two snaps at the end of the game in a win over the Michigan State Spartans.
However, that would be the only game he ever played for the Buckeyes as he transferred to Texas in December 2021. He was named the starting quarterback entering the 2022 season and has held the job for three straight seasons.
After a solid first season, Ewers broke out in 2023, throwing for 3479 yards and 22 touchdowns to help the Longhorns win the Big 12 Championship. Despite missing some time with injuries this season, he threw for 3189 yards and 29 touchdowns.
If Ewers wants to return for another season, he will likely need to transfer again as Texas is reportedly committed to giving Arch Manning the starting job next year.
